Karachi stands at the twelfth position among global cities with a population of over 20 million people and almost 3. 4 million vehicles. This leads to traffic jams and problems with transport in and around the city. To counter the above, the government of Pakistan is developing a new 6-lane highway parallel to the Malir River. This highway is intended to provide a fast and efficient means of transport from the city center to the main road. It will also cause an ease in the transportation of goods using the trucks available on the terrain. This Sub-Expressway begins from KPT Interchange at Qayyumabad and onward towards Super Highway (M-9) near DHA Phase-IX. Through the PPP mechanism, the strong operational Government of Sindh is aggressively pushing this idea for easing traffic and serving the public.

Karachi is the largest city of Pakistan in terms of the population of the country. Not only is the largest city with respect to population, but it is also considered to be the business hub for the country. With each passing day, the population is increasing. As per the last census, the population has crossed 14 million citizens’ mark. Therefore, with such a large population, the city’s infrastructure is unable to keep up. Due to this, there are always traffic jams. Apart from traffic issues, it has also become one of the most polluted cities in the world. For this reason, the Sindh government decided to construct the Malir Expressway. Companies that want to undertake this project were asked to submit their bids on July 31st, 2019.
